paint the weekend away

I have full plans to escape with tea and photoshop.
I have this one painting sitting on the computers. I have a fully mashed up version on the imac, and a not so mashed up one on the macbook.... I am indecisive as to which version to continue.. most likely the one with the rocks still in it.

I can't wait to finish it... I have been so busy that it was put on the back burner for a good long while :(

Here is what it looks like right now... I am loving the painterly look :)

sketching

started off with a great plan, then I kind of felt I needed to take a different direction.
In this I was mainly focused on rock texture, everything else was just painting for fun, no purpose to it. Just getting back into it really... basically make a bunch of mistakes and learn from them in this paint. Now that its out of the way, I want to start working on a nice landscape paint.

Been on an inspiration lag lately. Maybe because I been so busy?
Anyways, couldn't decided on what to do, so working on still life paintings instead. Relaxing and learning at the same time :)

Day offf tomorrow

I am so excited to have a day off!! Well, 1/3 of it will be spent sleeping since I am 12hr night shift tonight, well past few days. No big deal, I've adjusted..... Sort of! Been working so so so much and loads of overtime - and have had no time at allllll!!! I have this brand spankin new imac sitting at home, and I've had maybe a couple of solid hours using it - TORTURE!

So, I been bringing my poor dying macbook to work with me and dabbling whenever there is downtime (really not much downtown wierdly) to work on a pana paint and a character sketch.

I have photo! not screenshots (sorry)

I can't wait to sort out the rock situation on this paint and begin the render process! Gah!

imac + photoshop cs6 + jot touch pro + screencasting = FUN

WELL!

I been spoiled rotten mothers day and this week by my lovely spouse and daughter! Then I spoiled myself by getting an imac.
Well.. I plan to quit smoking over getting the imac, should have waited to quit first lol.
So! I have a program that lets me mirror the ipad to the imac - I plan to screen record an ipad painting very shortly (have a few 12 hour shifts to go and no time!)

For anyone looking to screen record their ipad ... GO HERE ----> Reflector App
Wow what a GREAT program!! :)

more to come!

little bit of painting

Had such a busy day, was out and about to get brake pad and rotors and a bunch of errands. Then visited with friends with my daughter who played with their kids and it was a good time. Such a long day though, and now I am having to work an overnight in another hour uhggg! only a small bit of time to work on the painting today:) So far in this I only been using the one brush! I like forcing myself to be more creative with the one brush. I'm sure I'll use more, but for the most part it's good exercise - and not being dependent on always finding certain brushes... going more for handmade here :) SO here's another in progress shot!

Lets catch up!

I dont have any art to post at the moment! Sorrry! I did finish another ipad painting, ill post that up shortly. Were really busy right now! Were moving to Newfoundland, so theres all the packing, plus i am getting ready for university.. WAIT! ME?! UNIVERSITY?!? Wierd huh lol. I just finally finished high school, and I am going to take Social Work. Really a 180 for me, but I feel this is where I need to be! Cant wait! So I decided since Newfoundland is absolutly jaw dropping beautiful, i'm going to focus on doing real life landscape painting during my time there. Be on the lookout for that!
More art to follow :)

Blue prints anyone?

SO.. I been taking this design class, and I am really enjoying it! It's inspiring me so much. I was always nervous drawing orthographic drawings, or making 3D drawings. Well, I started doing this in design class, and it really came naturally, and I really enjoyed it! WELL!! I am all excited to dive back into 3D again.. took a 2 year hiatus from it when school didn't work out. I'm back into Maya, but this time with lots of books and tutorials, hoping I can get better at it.

The last thing I ever did in Maya was model a ship. I never finished it, and kind of forgot about it. Since I am back in Maya, I am now going to model another ship. I chose to do the MV Leif Ericson. There isn't really much deck plans or orthographics on the interwebs that I can find. So, now with my new skills from design class, I am going to make my own.

CHALLENGE EXCEPTED!

here's a preview of the orthographs so far.. If I doesnt work out, atleast I'm trying something new :D

I have the images loaded into maya now. Not sure if it's been done right, but it's all trial and error. Ready to start the modeling.... this should be interesting. Totally wish I had a top view right about now!

Been cracking away at this for several hours now. I stopped working on a bit earlier last night so my boyfriend and I could attempt one of those 1000 pieces puzzle. UHG.. too many pieces! Good thing, is that it kinda fueled my patience... building this ship is like a big puzzle to me hahaa. I must say, I did learn a few more useful things yesterday as I kept working on it. That's the whole plan, to get more comfortable with the program :)

The hull is done as you can see , the worst part was the freaking hull, and that ballast. I was never comfortable with slicing up two pieces of geometry and connecting them.. I guess it wasn't as bad as I imagined. I am hardening lines here and there to help maintain ship shape (lol) Also, I am toggling between smooth preview to catch anything wonky. This whole combine merge and making sure the vertices are merged properly is becoming ocd with me... but again, I want to make sure everything is sound in the overall shape building stage. OH BOY. Thank the interwebs for tutorials.. I'm down to flat out typing a question about maya into google now lol.

Allright, she's starting to take shape now. I think at this point, I am really getting excited that it's getting more into the shape of the ferry without any long meditative moments of "how am I gonna shape that?"
Since it seems more realistic that I may actually finish this (after such a long, long time away from Maya) that I am daydreaming of how to render it. I'm thinking of sitting her in ocean, or make an ocean like pedestal or something. I may be aiming well above my ability, but you know, that's what's fueling me wanting to actually get better at modeling. Happy days.

ipad sketching walkthrough

this is an ongoing ipad sketch today, it's me picking up and putting down the ipad throughout the day. I am taking screenshots as i go, incase anyone wants to see the process. I am still trying to make my own custom brushes for procreate, but the preloaded and available brushes in the artery are great!! (artery brushes are well worth the purchase)
alright! I'll keep adding to this as I go! :)
